Dr. Seuss (sung to the tune of Neil Young’s “Old Man“)

by Diana Zipeto

Dr. Seuss, when I look at your life
I want to be like you were

Dr. Seuss, when I look at your life
I want to be like you were

Dr. Seuss, your books are gold
You published at 26 years old
Now you have 600 million sold
Amazing but it’s true!!

Back then books were Dick and Jane
Your stories prob’ly seemed insane
Now you are a household name
We owe it all to you
(and a marketing genius somewhere who believed in you)

Chorus
Dr. Seuss, when I look at your life
I want to be like you
You wrote stories for kids
and then you drew them, too
I’ve been working on my books
and my aim is true

Dr. Seuss, your lessons last
Don’t cut down trees, don’t steal Christmas
Try new foods, wear tall striped hats
Stand up for the Whos

You wrote about green eggs and ham
and a cat who’s on the lam
Star-on machines = such a scam
Our world inspired you

Chorus
Dr. Seuss, when I look at your life
I want to be like you
You wrote stories for kids
and then you drew them too
I’ve been working on my books
and my aim is true

Dr. Seuss when I look at your life
I want to be like you were

Dr. Seuss, when I look at your life
I want to be like you were
