New in 19’s February Debuts

Happy February, everyone! I’m so excited to share with you the next two picture book debuts from the New in 19 group of authors and illustrators.

pippa

First up: PIPPA’S PASSOVER PLATE, written by Vivian Kirkfield and Jill Weber is simply adorable and charming. When Pippa discovers that her Passover plate is missing, she ventures out to find it. Along the way she encounters a cat, a snake, and an owl who eventually become Pippa’s Passover Seder guests.  Kirkfield’s rhyme is spot on and the inclusion of a repeating refrain make this a fun read aloud. Weber’s illustrations are vibrant and whimsical. This story is a great read for those who celebrate Passover and for those who want to learn more about it. Pippa’s Passover Plate (Holiday House) is now available for purchase!

spineless

Next up: THIS BOOK IS SPINELESS written by Lindsay Leslie and Alice Brereton is in a league of its own! A book as a narrator of his/her own story talking about being afraid of scary stories? Yes, please! The playful, interactivity engages the reader right from the start and doesn’t let up. Leslie also manages to weave the five senses into the adventures on each page, adding another layer to this already fresh approach to storytelling. Brereton’s art is the perfect complement to Leslie’s text- adding more vibrant colors as the story unfolds. I just keep reading this one over and over because it is just so much fun! This Book is Spineless (Page Street Kids) releases on February 19!

Note: NOODLEPHANT, written by Jacob Kramer and illustrated by K-Fai Steele was featured with the January debuts but is actually releasing February 12! Click here to view the review!

I can’t wait to show you all of the wonderful books debuting in March…stay tuned!
