Eight – yes eight more debuts have or will be hitting the shelves this month from the New in Nineteen crew! Let’s check them out!
Noah Noasaurus by Elaine Kiely Kearns and Colin Jack
Having a bad day? So is Noah. He’s not feeling like anything today. It’s No! to scrambled dodo eggs. No! to his woolly mammoth slippers. Even No! to his friends. This adorable, heartwarming story is both easily relatable and highly enjoyable for kids!
Babymoon by Hayley Barrett and Juana Martinez-Neal
A perfect gift for any expectant parent as this story centers around that precious time when a newborn baby arrives and a family is born. The rhyming text is exquisite and Juana Martinez-Neal’s art adds to the calm, warmth, and love of this special time.
Underwear! by Jenn Harney
Oh my, adorable hilarity abounds in this book written and illustrated by the uber talented Jenn Harney! My favorite line: “Underwear makes awesome hair.” This one will definitely be requested over and over!
Her Fearless Run: Kathrine Switzer’s Historic Boston Marathon by Kim Chaffee and Ellen Rooney
This picture book biography about the first woman to run the Boston Marathon with an official race number is near and dear to my heart, for obvious reasons. 🙂 Ellen Rooney’s art is stunning, well-researched, and filled with emotion. I’m so grateful she brought her talents to this text!
Sweet Dreams, Sarah by Vivian Kirkfield and Chris Ewald
Sarah E. Goode isn’t a name everyone knows but thanks to this picture book biography they will! Born a slave, but freed after emancipation, Sarah used the woodcraft skills she learned from her father to create a cabinet bed which she would later patent- becoming the first African-American woman to ever do so.
Guitar Genius: How Les Paul Engineered the Solid-Body Electric Guitar and Rocked the World by Kim Tomsic and Brett Helquist
Another excellent picture book biography! The story of Les Paul, the inventor of the solid-body electric guitar and many other things, is brought to life through Tomsic’s exuberant text and Helquist’s vibrant illustrations. My favorite line, “It purred! It hummed! It twanged in all the right ways!”
Birth of Cool: How Jazz Great Miles Davis Found His Sound by Kathleen Cornell Berman and Keith Henry Brown
I love the rhythm and flow of Kathleen Cornell Berman’s text in this picture book biography about the legendary Miles Davis. Readers are treated to Keith Henry Brown’s soothing watercolors and lines which bleed over the gutter of the page to create spectacular images, as we explore Davis’ childhood, young life, and finding his sound.
I will be Fierce! by Bea Birdsong and Nidhi Chanani
What’s not to love about this fierce pairing of text by Bea Birdsong and Nidhi Chanani?! Taking on monsters, dragons, and giants, this fierce girl is ready for whatever the day brings. Chanani’s vibrant illustrations are the perfect complement to Birdsong’s motivational text.
A wonderful group of books, congratulations to all!
