Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and there are plenty of literary offerings for the day. Here are a few of my favorites!
Set the Table
There’s nothing like a beautiful table setting. Forks and knives lined up like soldiers, the butter saucer and goblet sentinels by the top of the plate. These books are perfect inspiration for setting a table.
The Table Sets Itself by Ben Clanton
A fun take on the “Hey diddle diddle” rhyme, this punny picture book is about setting the table and making chores fun.
Our Table by Peter H. Reynolds
A new picture book by Peter H. Reynolds, Our Table explores the importance of sitting down to dinner with family.
With the world being topsy turvy and one day busier than the next, it’s easy to overlook the little things. There are so many things to be thankful for if we take the time to notice.
Those Shoes By Maribeth Boelts, Illustrated by Noah Z. Jones
This realistic story speaks to the heart. A little boy who wants cool shoes realizes what he truly needs and to appreciate the things he does have.
Thanksgiving Poem by Marianne Knowles
A throwback from one of our very own Writers’ Rumpus founders.
Present the Turkey
Cold Turkey by Corey Rosen Schwartz and Kirsti Call
This new hilarious picture book finds a turkey in his birthday suit! Can his friends warm him up? Perfect read aloud for Thanksgiving.
Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard
This sweet picture book explores how food, specifically fry bread, can bring families together.
Don’t Forget the Cranberry Sauce
It’s an annual tradition in my family to make the cranberry sauce and jar it for friends and family. Here is a recipe for homemade cranberry sauce to sweeten the day! Enjoy!
