Well, folks, we have come to the end of a year of fantastic picture book debuts. I’ve loved sharing these silly, heart-warming, historical, lyrical, emotional, powerful, inspiring, out-of-this-world stories with you. Best wishes for a happy, healthy holiday season for you and yours!
One Hug by Katrina Moore and Julia Woolf celebrates the magic of one simple, special hug and will make you want to reach for the nearest loved one to give him/her a squeeze. Told in spot-on, joyful rhyme and illustrated with bright, colorful tones, kids will embrace ONE HUG and not want to let go!
Freedom Soup by Tami Charles and Jacqueline Alcantara spotlights the important history behind Freedom Soup – the story of how Haitian independence came to be. The reader is taken on a journey into the past while Ti Gran and her granddaughter, Belle, dance and prepare the traditional meal. Told in lyrical, tap-your-toes text and complete with an author’s note and recipe, FREEDOM SOUP is an important story for all readers to experience.
I ditto Marcia. Also, these two are abotu especially good themes – love and freedom. Doesn’t get any better than that.
